Since beginning of June and till 21 August 2024/25 MY, Ukraine exported to China 630 KMT of barley. This is already almost same volume, like all Ukrainian barley export to China during the full 2023/24 MY (702 KMT). The secret of success in this season is existence of the Ukrainian corridor, which was not functioning during same time last year. However, further demand from China for Ukrainian barley may ease sizably on high carry-in stocks in the Asian country and expected decrease of feed consumption there.

Moreover, China could switch to Australian origin next months, compensating decrease of French crop. Australia took 35% share in Chinese barley import in 2023/24 MY.

The overall demand for barley from China will be lower in 2024/25 MY. Aug WASDE sees import to the country at 10.2 MMT vs 14.5 MMT in 2023/24 MY.
