According to Pavel Lysenko, analyst with ASAP Agri and freight broker with Atria Brokers, at the start of summer, the Black Sea freight market remains challenging for shipowners, with a limited number of cargo orders. However, available coaster tonnage for the first half of June (particularly in the 5,000–6,000 DWT range) has decreased, forcing charterers to pay slightly more in some cases when a suitable candidate appears on the market. Handysize rates, meanwhile, remain mostly stable, while Panamax freights edged higher.

According to Atria Brokers’ freight department, Panamax freight for corn shipments from Ukrainian deep-water ports to South China has increased by 1 USD/MT w/w to 33–34 USD/MT.

In the Handysize segment, freight for a 30,000t corn shipment to East Coast Italy stands at 16–17 USD/MT.

In the Coaster segment, freight for a 6,000t corn shipment from Ukrainian Danube ports to East Coast Italy remains stable at 29–30 USD/MT.

Barge freight for 1,000–3,000t of corn from Izmail or Reni to Constanta remains within 8–9 EUR/MT.
