The freight market remains challenging for owners. Trading activity has
picked up this week, with more fresh cargo orders becoming available. However,
only a few of these lots are firm, so fixing activity remains limited, and the
cargo-to-tonnage imbalance persists. This week, the bearish trend is most
evident in the Panamax, Supramax, and Handysize sectors, while Coaster rates
remain steady.
Thus, as per Atria Brokers’ freight department current freight rates
for Panamax for corn shipments from POC ports to South China are in the range
of 34-36 USD/MT.
Handysize rates for corn shipments from POC ports to East Coast Italy
have softened by 1 USD/MT, settling at 16-17 USD/MT.
Meanwhile, Coaster owners have largely managed to resist further rate
cuts. Freight rates for corn shipments from Ukrainian Danube ports to East
Coast Italy remain unchanged at 27-29 USD/MT.
Freight for corn transportation by barges from Reni or Izmail to
Constanta remains at 9 EUR/MT..
