After a relatively dry week, rains returned to Ukraine at the end of October, once again slowing harvesting progress — particularly for sunflower seed, which showed the weakest weekly advance.

In the week ending 30 October, farmers harvested only 4% of the planned sunflower area, down from 6% a week earlier. Overall progress reached 86%, compared with 93% at the same time last year. National yields remain below 1.9 MT/HA, though they inched up to 1.88 MT/HA, still clearly lagging last season. In Dnipro, the country’s main sunflower-growing region, yields barely exceed 1 MT/HA, a stark reminder of how severe the summer stress was during peak vegetation. Yet there are bright spots: Vinnytsia stands out with exceptional performance — 95% harvested and yields above 3.3 MT/HA, the highest nationwide.
