According to Pavel Lysenko, analyst with ASAP Agri and freight broker with Atria Brokers, at the end of September, Ukrainian grain charterers continue to face a shortage of vessels able to perform the voyage. As a result, Handysize rates climbed by another 1 USD/MT this week amid limited supply of corresponding tonnage on the market. Coaster fleet availability is also tightening, as rising Black Sea cargo flow is absorbing open tonnage more quickly. Charterers seeking coasters now have to pay about 1 USD/MT more whenever a suitable vessel appears. Panamax rates remain largely stable, with only Supramax shipments to Bangladesh up by 1 USD/MT.

Thus, as per Atria Brokers’ freight department, Panamax freight for corn shipments from Ukrainian deep-water ports to South China remains at 47–48 USD/MT.

In the Handysize segment, freight for a 30,000t corn shipment to East Coast Italy stands at 24–25 USD/MT (+1 USD/MT w/w).

In the Coaster segment, freight for a 6,000t corn shipment from Ukrainian Danube ports to East Coast Italian ports is quoted at 34–35 USD/MT, up 1 USD/MT w/w.
