Sunflower harvesting in Ukraine made strong headway last week, with 2.24 MHA (44% of the planned area) harvested as of 25 September, a jump of 17 percentage points w/w. Still, progress trails last year, when 3.27 MHA had been completed by this time. Yields remain under pressure from drought, averaging 1.84 MT/HA — higher than last week’s 1.76 MT/HA but below last year’s 2.01 MT/HA obtained from the comparable area. Cumulative sunflower output stands at 4.11 MMT.

Soybean harvesting also picked up pace, reaching 750 KHA or 35% of area (+13 p.p. w/w). This is well behind last year’s 1.65 MHA. Average yields improved to 2.02 MT/HA versus 1.95 MT/HA a week earlier and slightly above last year’s level. So far, 1.51 MMT of soybeans have been collected. Conditions vary: central regions show premature leaf drop and pod shattering, while western oblasts benefit from occasional rains.

Corn harvesting remains sluggish at just 196 KHA (5%) complete, advancing 3 p.p. over the week. This compares with 921 KHA at the same time in 2024. Average yields rose to 4.92 MT/HA, up from 4.31 MT/HA last week and above last year’s 4.32 MT/HA obtained from the comparable area. Results are highly uneven: western and northern oblasts report stronger outcomes, while southern regions suffer from critical soil moisture deficits. Current corn output totals 964 KMT.
