Ukraine’s harvesting campaign is running roughly a week behind last year, weighed down by deepening drought and contrasting temperatures across regions. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, just 3% of the country’s total grains and pulses area has been harvested (331.9 KHA), producing 865.7 KMT. This compares to 9% (966.9 KHA) and 3.4 MMT collected by the same date in 2024.

Wheat harvest (winter and spring combined) has reached 107.4 KHA (2%), yielding 277.8 KMT with an average yield of 2.59 MT/ha. Harvesting is currently underway in the southern and eastern regions, including Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro.

Barley harvest stands at 176.6 KHA (13%), with total output at 501.2 KMT and an average yield of 2.84 MT/ha, based on data from nine regions.

Pea harvest progress is at 19%, with 47.2 KHA harvested and 83.8 KMT collected, averaging 1.78 MT/ha. This data reflects activity primarily in five southeastern oblasts.

For rapeseed, 46 KHA have been harvested so far (4%), producing 71.6 KMT at an average yield of 1.56 MT/ha across four southern regions.

Farmers grapple with localized stress: from blooming setbacks to abandonment decisions

June brought renewed challenges, according to the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences (NAAS). Soil drought intensified in Steppe and Forest-Steppe zones, while volatile weather — from frosty April conditions to extreme June heat — put further stress on crops. Delayed development is being observed in spring crops like corn and sunflower due to insufficient moisture and temperature shocks.
