As of 5 June, Ukraine’s spring planting campaign is nearly complete, with 97–99% of the forecasted areas sown for key crops, according to ASAP Agri and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. Special accent is also done for soybeans:
- Soybeans - 2.33 MHA (97%) vs 2.03 MHA (75%) LY
- Corn - 3.99 MHA (99%) vs 3.93 MHA (96%)
- Sunflower seed - 4.93 MHA (97%) vs 5.19 MHA (103%)
While spring grains — barley, oats, and peas — are showing more stable development thanks to consistent light rains in May, early-sown corn and sunflower seed are entering critical growth stages and will require timely rainfall to avoid irreversible drought stress. Corn plants currently stand at 20–25 cm with 5–6 leaves, but further dry conditions could severely limit yield potential as the season progresses. Without significant precipitation in June, agronomists warn that yield reductions across both winter and spring crops could become unavoidable.
