On 1 May 2025, Turkey announced a new 1 MMT corn import quota with zero import duty, effective until 31 July. However, only half of the quota may still be available for new purchases, according to market participants interviewed by ASAP Agri. At least 500 KMT of corn is reportedly already sitting in bonded warehouses, awaiting customs clearance.

"Since the beginning of the second quota [1 MMT announced on 18 March 2025], 1.3 MMT has already been loaded, and contracts covering another 500 KMT have been signed. So I don't expect many new trades, except for speculative ones," said Koray Tüysüzoğlu, CEO of Erser Group Turkey.

Market sources also noted the potential for Turkey to import U.S. corn under the new quota, provided GMO-related issues are resolved. Currently, U.S. corn is about 15 USD/MT cheaper for Turkish buyers compared to Ukrainian origin.
