As of 24 April, Ukrainian farmers have planted 2 MHA of spring grains and pulses, which accounts for 35% of the projected area for this season (5.68 MHA). This progress is slightly behind the pace of 2024, when 43.6% of the target had been reached by the same date.

Wheat planting is reported at 88% completion (200 KHA of the 227.5 KHA forecasted), compared to last year’s 129%. However, that 2024 figure is based on a revised area forecast. Initially, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy had projected 246.1 KHA as of April 25, 2024, with 223.3 KHA already planted, suggesting 91% progress. The forecast was later revised downward to 173.5 KHA.

Barley planting has reached 91% (702 KHA out of 776.1 KHA), roughly in line with last year’s pace. Corn planting is progressing more slowly, with only 18% of the area sown (705 KHA) compared to 30% at this time in 2024. Sunflower planting is also behind, currently at 24% (1.24 MHA out of 5.06 MHA), versus 41% by this time last year. Soybeans remain at an early stage, with just 7.8% of the area planted so far.
