Ukraine's sunflower oil exports are showing resilience this season, driven by a surge in demand from India and Iraq, despite overall lower export volumes due to reduced sunflower seed output.

From September through April 13, Ukraine shipped 519 KMT of sunflower oil to India, more than doubling last season’s volume of 209 KMT during the same period, according to the official data.

India remains a key buyer, but Ukraine faces intensifying competition from russia. According to the Solvent Extractors’ Association (SEA) of India, russia supplied 63% of India’s sunflower oil imports from November to March in 2024/25 MY, up from 36% the year prior. Ukraine's share rose to 23%, while Romania, once a major supplier, has exited the Indian market this season.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's exports to Iraq have surged ninefold year-on-year to 176 KMT, with volumes in April alone (1–16 April) reaching a record 58 KMT — the highest monthly figure on record.
