The Turkish Grain Board
(TMO) has sought to dispel rumors regarding the quality of its wheat stocks,
confirming that approximately 75% of its inventory, which stands at around 9 MMT
as of 20 October, consists of wheat with a protein content exceeding 12%, said
Salih Karagoz, Trade advisor at ASAP Agri and broker at Atria Brokers.
During Extended Sector Meeting of the Ministry of Trade of Turkey with TUSAF, held in Antalya on 18-20 October, Ahmet Güldal, General Director of TMO emphasized the high quality of the stored wheat, highlighting its significance in Turkey’s agricultural strategy. This quality assurance is likely a factor in Turkey's efforts to shield its domestic market from imported wheat this season, and one of the reasons why Turkey has extended a 15% import quota, reinforcing its commitment to prioritizing local production.
