The
area planted with second-crop corn in Brazil may decrease in 2024/25 MY, Daniele Siqueira with AgRural said during her presentation at Trend & Hedge Club online on 04
Sep.
“We
are expecting a decrease in the second-crop corn area, because farmers are not
happy with the current prices. They had yield losses last season that resulted
in net income losses.” D. Siqueira said,
adding that the exact numbers will be announced in December.
For
the first-crop corn she said that they expected a 4% decrease in the planted
area to 3.9 MLN HA. The planting campaign of the first-crop corn for harvest
2024/25 has been already started in Brazil.
“But even so, we cannot tell that Brazil will have a smaller corn crop in 2024/25 MY because of the area reduction. Many states had yield losses in 2023/24 MY because of the weather conditions. So, if the weather improves in the next season, Brazilian farmers will be able to have a larger corn production even with the smaller area.” D. Siqueira believes.
